    April 23, 2009

    Fukami, Sueharu

The prominent porcelain artist Fukami Sueharu will be featured in a presentation at the Ceramics Program on April 23 and in the Japan Society's annual Rad Smith lecture on April 22 at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. These presentations and the Museum of Fine Arts' exhibition "Celebrating Kyoto: Modern Arts from Boston's Sister City" are highlights in a series of programs celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Kyoto-Boston Sister City relationship. Atmospheric fields of shimmering celadon float on the taut, tapered surfaces of Fukami's abstract sculptures and vessels. The large scale of his porcelain work required the inventive adaptation of industrial processes and tools for his extraordinary accomplishments. In 2005, Fukami was the only artist selected amongst previous Grand Prize winners of the prestigious Faenza International Ceramic Art Competition to hold a solo exhibition at the International Ceramic Art Museum in Faenza.
