The winner of the 2009 Rod Parker Playwrighting Festival is George Watsky, for his play Harold's Fall or King Will. Harold's Fall or King Will by George Watsky focuses on William and Harold, two chess players in a park in New York City. Harold's magical piece of chalk can transform himself and his surroundings, but at the price of his undoing. Using chess as a metaphor, the play examines status, race and morality in the world that Harold creates. NewFest '09, sponsored by Rod Parker, is an opportunity for student playwrights to collaborate on a full production of his or her play. The play chosen is directed by Joe Antoun, Artistic Director of Centastage.
