Art and Architecture Programs Trinity Church, Boston 206 Clarendon Street Boston, MA 02116 Art & Architecture Celebrate Gardens and the Spirit With Trinity Church and the Arnold Arboretum Saturday, April 18, 2009, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Bostonians can contemplate the transcendent power of landscape in this lecture exploring gardens and spirituality. Julie Moir Messervy, author of Outside the Not So Big House and known for her design of the award-winning Toronto Music Garden, a collaboration with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the City of Toronto, will speak about her creative process for designing outdoor places. Messervy's vision for composing gardens of meaningful beauty is changing the way people experience their outdoor surroundings. Julie leads a movement in landscape design as a personal journey reflecting a concept deeply rooted in archetypes, childhood imagination, and aesthetic impulses. In this lecture at Boston's Trinity Church, Julie will show gardens that engender spirituality and reveal how spirituality can inform garden design. Her forthcoming book, Home Outside: Creating the Landscapes You Love (2009), will be available for purchase and signing following the lecture.
