Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear leads a one-band revolution of quiet cool. Their hand-crafted songs feature dreamy, atmospheric compositions seething with tension and sweeping arrangements. Flush with heart and melancholy, the music is seductive and intimate, laced with haunting melodies and hazy-eyed choruses. Grizzly Bear began as a bedroom project for Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Edward Droste (a Boston native), who used it as a vehicle for his woozily gentle break-up songs. He joined up with multi-instrumentalist Christopher Bear to release Horn of Plenty, and Grizzly Bear morphed into a full band with guitarist/songwriter Daniel Rossen (also a member of the band Department of Eagles) and Chris Taylor on electronics, bass, woodwinds and vocals. Since then, the band has played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, toured with Radiohead, Feist and TV on the Radio. Their greatly-anticipated new recording, Veckatimest, named after a small, uninhabited island off the coast of Massachusetts, is due out in May 2009. Here We Go Magic will open. Presented by World Music/CRASHarts.
