Don't miss the Grammy-nominated Boston Early Music Festival's new production of Claudio Monteverdi's sublime final opera "The Coronation of Poppea" at the intimate Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. Boasting an internationally-acclaimed cast of opera stars, BEMF's exquisite production of Monteverdi's "Poppea" is sure to transport you to 17th-century Venice, Italy, with its sumptuous sets, lavish costumes, and lush chamber ensemble. First performed in 1642- just 50 years after the birth of opera - Monteverdi's seminal work remains as richly current & intriguing today as it was more than three and a half centuries ago, exploring the abuse of power, the drive of lust, and the triumph of love.
Pre-concert talks and instrumental fanfares begin 90 minutes prior to each performance, except opening night on Saturday, June 6.
