MUSIC
Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra; Riccardo Chailly, conductor; Louis Lortie, piano soloist
Presented by Celebrity Series of Boston at Symphony Hall
February 25, 2010
The first hint an audience receives that they are listening to the Leipzig Gewandhaus is the uniquely dark string timbre; their glowing, burnished calling card. It takes an orchestra founded in Bach's time to produce such a rich, lustrous echo of the Old World. There are few sounds left today to match it. The brilliant conductor Riccardo Chailly leads this great orchestra with the masterful Brazilian pianist Louis Lortie.
