Everything's Coming Up Roses! Let us entertain you with the classic musical fable about the quintessential stage mother, Mamma Rose, who pushes her two children into show business at any cost, to fulfill the dream of stardom she never achieved herself. It is a story of ambition, suppressed dreams, and sacrifice. The score is jam-packed with iconic songs like "Let Me Entertain You," "Everything's coming up Roses," and "Rose's Turn."       I went opening night for my best friend's birthday. We were delighted with the new grounds, the lovely seating outside. We met the owner and he told us he had to remove a boat and over 60 T.Vs. that had been left on the grounds. The place just sparkled. The perfomance was powerful and tastefully done. The second act was very moving with many poignant moments. My friend had one of the best birthdays ever. Glad to have the North Shore Theatre alive and well! Collapse

      I was so looking forward to NSMT's return, but this show was nowhere near up to par with the old theater I knew and loved. The one word I can use to describe this Gypsy is bland. There was no spark, even though most of the cast was obviously talented. Vicki Lewis was the biggest letdown. She just doesn't have the star quality you need to carry off Rose. She might be good in other things, but she wasn't up to the task here. I read the Globe's review and pretty much agree. Lewis was weak and the staging was terrible. I have never seen so many backs at North Shore. For the first time I was very aware of it being in the round and not working. That has never happened to me before there. This was just awkward and stilted. Hope they improve with the rest of the season. Collapse

      This rendition of GYPSY works, thanks to the pared-down and minimalist direction, which keeps the action flowing at a steady pace, although sometimes one side of the audience seems to be favored. The... Expand

      This rendition of GYPSY works, thanks to the pared-down and minimalist direction, which keeps the action flowing at a steady pace, although sometimes one side of the audience seems to be favored. The actors compensate for this as they move both effortlessly and naturally around the stage, allowing all of us to see them. Vicki Lewis portrays Mama Rose with anguished drive and determination, and we can see the desperate reasons why she wishes to live vicariously through her daughters. Catherine Walker accepts the challenge of portraying Louise, and she does so with grace and understanding. It feels good to be home again at NSMT!! Collapse

      Gypsy is my Mother's All Time Favorite musical. I was thrilled to be able to bring her for her 71st birthday along with my daughter. Even my picky daughter liked the show! It was a great production. The theater was a bit chilly but that was no reflection on the cast or the show. We'll all be back again. Collapse

      I went opening night for my best friend's birthday. We were delighted with the new grounds, the lovely seating outside.
