Laura Marling

Add Review/Comment
With a gift for building quirky, hooky folk songs, Laura Marling was only 16 years old when she emerged on the British indie scene in 2007 and was quickly being compared favorably to artists like Lily Allen, Regina Spektor and Martha Wainwright. In early 2008, she signed to Virgin and released her acclaimed debut Alas I Cannot Swim, which garnered a Mercury Prize nomination and catapulted her onto the international scene. Now not quite 20 and touring in support of her new recording, I Speak Because I Can due out April 6 on Astralwerks, Marling seems wiser than her years with a warm folk-pop style, undercut by dark themes and hints of psychedelia.
