BAAK Presents "Rete Chromes 2010" by Janet Shapero
Presented by BAAK Gallery
April 22 - May 19, 2010
April 22, 2010 –May 19, 2010 Opening reception Friday, April 23rd, 2010 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. If you thought that Installations require large spaces, think again. Rete-Chromes, which can be hung within an inch from the wall, create many of the same shadow and light effects of large scale Installations. Janet Shapero, a local artist and inventor of the Rete-Chrome process, will be showing these unique art forms at BAAK Gallery in Harvard Square this April and May. Janet applies numerous layers of paint both directly and indirectly onto open mesh screen. The interplay of light and color through a permeable medium adds dimension and reflections that could not be achieved with traditional paint on canvas. Brightly colored and highly textured, Rete-Chromes change appearance as the light changes during the course of the day or with small changes in illumination. Janet’s “Rete” (which means net in Italian) – “Chromes” (colors in Greek) capture color and light in unusual and unexpected ways. Viewers say that they see landscapes, organic magnifications, sacred forms, or peaceful serenity within these abstract and evocative works.
