The Red Room at Cafe 939 is pleased to welcome Sonya Kitchell on Tuesday, May 4th. Though the critically acclaimed singer songwriter has performed her works with artists like Jamie Cullum and Los Lonely Boys, she has most notably toured the world with the legendary Herbie Hancock. Since the age of seven, she’s pursued her musical ambitions. Her prestigious studies even led her--at the age of 14--to be selected for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program’s workshop in jazz composition. Her smooth voice and moving compositions, blossoming through her collaborative arrangement and production, moved more than critics: but also Herbie Hancock. She was not only invited to perform with him at the 2006 Sonoma Jazz Festival, and to join him in support of his Grammy-winning River: The Joni Letters, but was also chosen to tour the world with Hancock. Todd Thibaud, a Boston-based songwriter, will be joining Sonya for the show. His mix of different styles has brought his solo career acclaim, taking him to tour both in Europe, and regionally in the states.
