Oopsy to Artsy: A Songwriting Workshop with Catie Curtis
May 9, 2010
Sunday, May 9 [2:30 pm – 5:00 pm] $50 nonmembers / $45 members Develop your capacity for creativity through the serendipitous juxtaposition of images to trigger fresh song ideas. Learn to stumble backwards in to creative songwriting by noticing the sights and sounds in front of you. Gradually, we'll take these ideas and make meaningful songs out of the metaphors they provide, by connecting the images to a central theme. In this class, you will be given brainstorming exercises as a group to generate ideas. You will also be given time to write on your own, returning to the group for feedback. Through unintentional or accidental pairing of images, we can spark the imagination and transcend cliche. The goal is to leave this class with an image-driven song underway that you can't wait to finish! Catie Curtis has created a dedicated following that has grown steadily over the course of her 15-year career. Her well-deserved reputation as one of our very best singer/songwriters has followed her through nine critically-acclaimed recordings. With her live shows, film and tv placements, the 2006 International Songwriting Competition Grand Prize, and now the Hello Stranger string-band project, Curtis has proven that she's the real deal: a musician with the kind of raw talent and artistic maturity that makes her a force to be reckoned with, albeit a sweet force.
