The selection for the May meeting of the Book Club is the 2006 Pulitzer Prize winning Polio: An American Story by David Oshinsky. Using the widespread panic over polio to shed light on our national obsessions and fears, Oshinsky creates a remarkable portrait of America in the early 1950's. The author focuses on the furious rivalry between Salk and Sabin and in the process creates a gripping scientific suspense story as well as a provocative social and cultural history. The book club is free and open to all. Call 617.796.1450 for more information
