Dance Inn Productions of Lexington presents Tapestry 2010, a spectacular concert tribute to Heather Cornell, "the Oscar Peterson of hoofing”—world-renowned tap dancer, choreographer, master teacher, musician, and director of Manhattan Tap—one of the most active dance companies of the 1990s. This exclusive concert—which also features award-winning Canadian pianist Andy Milne, Moroccan vocalist and world music star, Malika Zarra, and Dana Leong, considered New York’s best cellist—will include the Boston premiere of Cornell’s "Finding Synesthesia," (with Cornell on percussion) which she first presented at the 2007 London Jazz Festival at the city’s prestigious Southbank Center. The performance will also feature Cornell’s new ensemble CanTap that unites several of Canada’s most outstanding tap dancers and the evening will conclude with the presentation of the annual Tapestry Award—adding Cornell’s name to a distinguished list of artists that Dance Inn Productions has honored. Among them are Dianne Walker, Buster Brown, Brenda Bufalino, Jimmy "Sir Slyde" Mitchell, LaVaughn Robinson, Sue Ronson, Dean Diggins, Sarah Petronio, Jimmy Slyde, Paul Arslanian, and, posthumously Rosemarie Boyden.
As an innovative performer, Cornell has toured the world creating and sharing new ways to fuse music and dance and find "music in dance." The evening presents a rare opportunity to witness Heather's artistry alongside special guests from around the country and the world together with local performers including Jamie Larowitz Sherman, Ryan Casey and Thelma Goldberg with musicians Joe Mulholland, John Ramsey and Peter Tillotson, and the Legacy Dance Company, who will be performing Cornell's classic routine "Gumbo Hump," co-created with famed jazz bassist Ray Brown.
