Composer/pianist François Bourassa, 2007 Oscar Peterson Prize recipient (given by the Montréal International Jazz Festival) leads one of Canada’s most active jazz ensembles: currently with André Leroux (saxes) Adrian Vedady (bass), and Philippe Melanson (drums). Their latest recording in a catalogue of critically-acclaimed CD’s, Rasstones (Effendi), won several Quebec awards. A previous recording (Live at the Top of the Senator) won Canada’s highest recording honor, the JUNO. Numerous tours have taken them all over not only to festivals and concerts in Europe, the US and Canada, but also Russia, India, China, Korea, Japan and Mexico, to prestigious events such as the North Sea, Cork, and Paris Jazzfests, plus JALC in NYC. FBQ have appeared onstage with many greats of jazz. Wrote Nate Chinen of the New York Times: ‘’A pianist and composer of high stature in his native Montreal, Mr. Bourassa favors avant-gardism of a liquid and often lyrical sort.”
