This year for the New England Region Music Therapy Association international service trip ten music therapy students from New England will be spending a week in Grand Cayman volunteering at a number of different sites including an early intervention program, a school for children with special needs, and a day program for adults with developmental disabilities. We will be sharing the powerful healing potential of music with the people at each site, as well as bringing instruments to donate to each location so that they can continue making music long after we leave. In addition to volunteering at these sites, we will also be completing music therapy in-service presentations to bring awareness of the field to a country that could highly benefit from the addition of music therapy to its current health services offerings. This is a student-run trip, and is entirely student funded and we have been working hard to raise the money necessary to complete this project. This benefit concert featuring some of Boston's finest musicians will be our final fund raising project before we leave for the islands.
