Harlan—In the Shadow of “Jew Süss” by Felix Moeller
June 2-June 6, 2010
Add Review/Comment
Though nearly forgotten, at one time Veit Harlan was one of Nazi Germany’s most notorious filmmakers. An unrepentant and blindly obsessive craftsman, he was the only artist from the Nazi era to be charged with war crimes. Millions of Europeans saw his work; his most perfidious, the treacherous anti-Semitic propaganda film, Jew Süss, required viewing for all SS members. This chilling documentary—currently banned in Germany—goes behind the scenes of this production, illuminates the legacy of Nazi Germany, and explores Harlan’s artistic life and the profound impact he had on his family. In German with English subtitles.
