Bolstered by a phenomenal title track, with an ache and a surfy twang that wouldn’t be out of place substituting a Nancy Sinatra song on a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack, Eilen Jewell’s latest album Sea of Tears caused quite a stir in the roots/Americana world in 2009. This whip-smart, charismatic Boston-area singer appears backed by The Sacred Shakers, a who’s who of all-star roots musicians revisiting the bluesy gospel material that inspires them.
