The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) will host the performance ‘Mystics,' in collaboration with The Embassy of Spain. ‘Mystics’ is performed by Musica Aperta, an ensemble that combines live music with drama, dance, and visual arts. This stirring musical is inspired by the Spanish mystics, blending poetry written by St. John of the Cross--during his sixteenth-century imprisonment in Toledo, Spain--with music from medieval composer Magister Perotinus and Spanish Renaissance composer Cristóbal de Morales. The older works are juxtaposed musically with Arvo Pärt’s contemporary minimalism, as well as pieces by Henryk Górecki. Actors portray St. John and his guard, who is transformed as he hears the poetry of his captive. Tickets are $25; $20 for students, seniors and MFA members.
