The Concert (Le concert) by Radu Mihaileanu (2009, 119 min.). Thirty years ago, Andrei Simoniovich Filipov, the renowned conductor of the Bolshoi orchestra, was fired for hiring Jewish musicians. Demoted to custodian for the Bolshoi, he learns accidentally that the Châtelet Theater in Paris has invited the orchestra to play there. He resolves to reassemble his former musicians and stage the same production that was halted by authorities years earlier, infiltrating the upcoming performance. Part farce, part political commentary, Mihaileanu’s film aims to both delight and inform. Co-presented by The Boston Jewish Film Festival.
