New England Premiere-"Love, sex and money, poverty and exploitation, hope and despair: Dickens' world is vividly brought to life in David Edgar's adaptation of his 1838 novel." (The Times, London) According to Producing Artistic Director Spiro Veloudos, "this new, shorter adaptation streamlines the narrative, and captures Dickens' genius for combining exuberant characters, theatrical spectacle, and genuine emotion." A cast of 25 plays over 150 characters in this remarkable two-part epic. Winner of both the Tony Award (R) for best play (1982) and The Olivier Award for Play of the Year (1980), it has never been produced in Boston. We're pulling out all the stops for this incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience.

From the exceptional staging to the wonderful, true-to-the-book characters played by talented and versatile actors, we definitely left wanting more. And a note about Lyric Stage -- what a great theatre. It didn't look like there was a bad seat in the house! Collapse

      The cast of Nicholas Nickleby was a brilliant mix of talented actors: young and old, fun and serious. The stage at Lyric was perfect for this intimate play and the cast did a great job of maneuvering around the theater, changing costumes and personalities, and reappearing on stage as a new character without breaking the flow of the story. This show was extremely entertaining and well worth the time and money spent (for both parts). Collapse
