  Sad to say the Laramie Project: 10 Years Later at ArtsEmerson left me a bit cold. Filled with deeply interesting observations and tid-bits of information on the bending and re-interpreting of the events connected to the murder of MS, in my opinion the production failed to ignite. Flat performances were to blame as the characterizations of those portrayed were undifferentiated. Slipping on a brown jacket or blue sweater and donning this or that hat just doesn't infuse enough into the mix. I believe the director chose this stolid, sincere style which resulted in something less than drama, scarcely more than a reading of the material. Too bad because the observations that revolved around the local soft-pedaling of the hate crime aspect as the years passed was an enormous surprise. Best moments: the portrayals of the interviews with the killers-two serious "banality of evil" moments. There just wasn't enough depth to the performances to fully realize the complexity of the story. Collapse
