Imagined: The John Lennon Song Project is a beautifully re-imagined music tribute that celebrates the genius and artistry of John Lennon. The Imagined CD, inspired in part by LOVE, Sir George Martin’s masterful album and Cirque du Soleil’s performance piece, is scheduled for release on Lennon’s 70th birthday, October 9, 2010--in conjunction with this concert. Like the CD, the Song Project’s live performances focus mainly on Lennon’s Beatles catalogue, thoughtfully weaving melody, lyric and song in a clever, yet sophisticated manner. In concert, this dynamic six-member band replicates the elegant arrangements, inspiring singing, and dazzling instrumentation featured on the Imagined CD: acoustic, electric, and slide guitars, bass, cello, violin, mandolin, mandola, accordion, harmonica and percussion. In a labor of love, celebrated folk/rockers Rex Fowler of Aztec Two-Step and Tom Dean of Devonsquare have teamed up with Tom’s former band mate Alana MacDonald and a host of talented musicians to recapture the spirit of Lennon’s legendary music.

The Project Along with several prominent studio musicians, celebrated folk/rockers Rex Fowler of Aztec Two-Step and Tom Dean of Devonsquare celebrate the genius and artistry of John Lennon. As a gift to John for his 70th birthday on October 9, 2010, they have re-imagined exquisite acoustic renditions of Lennon’s legendary Beatles songs - inspired in part by Sir George Martin and Cirque du Soleil’s masterpiece, LOVE. In a labor of love, they have teamed up with Tom’s former band mate Alana MacDonald and a host of talented musicians to recapture the spirit of Lennon’s legendary music.       This past Saturday evening's performance by The John Lennon Song Project was an artfully performed series of new interpretations of John Lennon's music. Technically, the musicians were some of the best available in the northeast, inspired by the imagery of Lennon, his music, and what would have been his 70th birthday. It was clear throughout the evening that those 7 on stage were enjoying the experience as much as those of us in the audience. The comments interspersed throughout the show by band leader, Rex Fowler, of Aztec-Two Step, were illuminating as to his attachment to Lennon and the inspiration he found in the music. The inclusion of a female voice and violin, Alana McDonald, added another full dimension to the sound throughout the night. It is clear from the start of this project that this group will be kept very busy in the days to come with the word spreading about the warmth that this show shares throughout with the joy that was Lennon's sound.
