Don’t miss the groundbreaking 25th Anniversary Season of selected original ballets by New England’s most prolific dance-maker, Jose Mateo. Enjoy a thrilling theater experience like no other with cabaret-style seating, close-up view of the dancers, and cocktails during the show. Peer into Mateo’s mysterious side with Realm of Suspense, featuring two hauntingly riveting ballets that reveal unexpected dimensions beneath the surface of human character. Then expect new intrigue and excitement in the Fall’s much anticipated premiere. Realm of Suspense features the spellbinding Covens (premiered in 2006), set to James Macmillan’s Symphony #3.

This ballet thriller is a haunting tale about love and deception amidst the hysteria of a witch hunt. Streams (premiered in 2009), set to Terry Riley’s The Cusp of Magic for String Quartet and Pipa, explores the dynamic tensions between partners in various complex relationships. The concert concludes with a Mateo world premiere. Jose Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Realm of Suspense offers Boston audiences the only opportunity to see new classical ballet. Each work is customized for the company’s glorious 5,000 square foot Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square for an intimate experience unlike any other in dance performance.

      Jose Mateo and his dancers are in this 25th season at their peak of perfection in the choreography and in the dancers presentation. "Coven" sent shivers through my spine in the music and the choreography and the dancers presentation. My husband and I have attended these performances and each time it is an enriching experience. Of course the Sanctuary setting and ambiance ads to the overall artistic experience. Thank you all. Collapse

      I loved the performance by the Jose Mateo dance company, and especially loved the Sanctuary Theatre. It's beautiful design added a special quality that complemented the ballet.
