Travel & Taste: Botswana: Land of Contrasts, Dry and Wet
November 11, 2010
Add Review/Comment
Located in central southern Africa, Botswana is slightly smaller than Texas and comprised largely of the semiarid Kalahari Desert, a region including a mix of thorn scrub, Mopani forest, and grasslands. In the Northwest, the Okavango River flows out of the Angola highlands and spills into the Kalahari forming the massive network of channels, swamps and islands that make up the famous Okavango Delta. A spectacular contrast of southern African ecosystems, the desert and wetlands offer nearly 600 species of birds and a tremendous diversity of mammals and plants. Together, the wildlife, natural beauty, comfortable temperatures and relatively sparse human population, makes this region truly a remarkable place to visit.
Location-themed dinner and lecture or lecture only. Dinner at 6:30 pm, Lecture at 7:30 pm. Pre-registration required for dinner.
