When Lord Byron was a student he was asked to write an essay on the story of Jesus turning water into wine. He sat in the exam room for hours just thinking as his fellow students scribbled page after page in their booklets. As the other students turned in their essays, with not a line written and no time left, Byron dashed off one line: “The water met its master and blushed.”
Art is as much about what we leave out as what we include.
Gerry Hoag holds a BFA from MassArt and an MFA from Boston University School for the Arts. He has taught art at Boston University, New York Academy of Art, the Graduate School of Figurative Art, Harvard University, and the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.
