Numbskull / Corey Corcoran
September 18 - October 30, 2010
The Little Gallery under the Stairs (TLGUTS) is pleased to present Numbskull, an exhibition of works on paper by Corey Corcoran. In this richly detailed series of paintings and drawings, the human figure literally becomes the landscape. Tangled wildflowers and electric fungi bloom out of inert remains and moldering craniums. Spidery root systems anchor bones and heaps of rubbish with new growth and new purpose. Demise and decay is not the end to the story but merely its beginning.
Corey Corcoran is a Boston-based artist whose work has been exhibited nationally at such venues as OCCCA in Santa Ana, CA; Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis, MD; and K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, TX. His work has been shown at numerous Boston galleries including FPAC Gallery, La Montagne Gallery, and fivesevendelle project space. Corcoran received a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2007. His work can currently be found in issue #5 of Bluecanvas magazine as well as 25 Boston Emerging Artists, curated by Rifrakt Collective.
