Rhythmic roots of folk music fuel the fiery beat of Latin music. In Adiós Nonino, Piazzolla creates the essential tango sound while Villa-Lobos connects the sound-world of Bach and Brazil folk music in his Bachianas Brasileiras. Argentine composer Bacalov captures the magical mood of the film “Il Postino” (The Postman) while Ginastera draws upon the “gauchesco” literacy and dance traditions to portray a “day-in-the-life” of an Argentine ranch. Venezuelan-born pianist Gabriela Montero’s interpretation of Schumann’s inventive Piano Concerto makes for an exceptional performance.
