September 21-September 27, 2010
Add Review/Comment
Working with the Yanomami people of the Amazon Rainforest, Laura Barbata taught them how to make paper and bind books, thus empowering them in writing their own history. Through her project “Moko Jumbies” she engaged at-risk youth in the practice of ancient traditions and helped them develop their sense of identity. Laura Anderson Barbata is a professor at the Escuela Nacional de Escultura, Pintura y Grabado La Esmeralda of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, México.
