Quality of Life, Enchantment at Bromfield In October
September 29 - October 30, 2010
Sept 29 – Oct 30
”quality of life report” by Odile Dix
This "report" is not an overview of life's large events but of quotidian pieces of experience. Always watchful for resonance in the smallest object or task, here Dix sees the instructions for assembling a gas grill or the parts of the vacuum cleaner as worthy of our attention. Vision, choice, context and combination bring vibrancy to this installation.
“Enchantment” by Elizabeth Strasser
A skillful bedtime story has an engaging arc of mystery and surprise. Things are not as they usually appear to be; grandma has huge teeth, a bottle contains a genie, witches and goblins roam the landscape. In " Enchantment," the tale is condensed into paintings and ceramics containing evocative shapes full of unexpected features.
“Under Construction: The Stata Center, MIT” by Emily Corbató
These photographs dramatically record the construction of this unique building complex designed by Frank Gehry Partners. Taken from within the construction site, the images reveal steel structures emerging from the foundation in striking skeletal forms. The angles, light and shadows create a sense of rhythm and geometry.
