    Beethoven's FIDELIO

Based on a true story from France's Reign of Terror, Beethoven's only opera tells the powerful story of a woman, in disguise as a young man, who goes to work in a dismal prison to liberate her husband, a political prisoner. With highlights that include the first-act quarted, powerhouse arias for soprano and tenor, and the Prisoner's Chorus, the score fully expresses the opera's lofty themes of unwavering loyalty, freedom, and love.

Starring soprano Christine Goerke as Leonore.

    Conducted by Gil Rose
    Directed by Thaddeus Strassberger

Sung in German with English titles
