Presented by at Wheelock Family Theatre

    December 2 - December 19, 2010

For their 10th Anniversary, Anthony Williams brings his ”Urban Nutcracker” to Wheelock Family Theatre. This Boston holiday classic jump starts the traditional Ballet with an inner city edge and features the professional BalletRox dance company and over 50 local children. The "Urban Nutcracker" follows the story line of Hoffman's original 19th century fairy tale but is set in contemporary Boston and fuses seasonal tradition with contemporary innovation. Ballet, swing, hip hop, and tap will interpret music from Tchaikovsky to Ellington.

Wonderful production. The combination of ballet, hip hop, jazz, tap and up-beat music made for a lively Nutcracker. Will definitely go again next year.

The Urban Nutcracker was a high energy twist on the classic - the diversity of the dancers in race, age, size draws everyone in. Young and old will find something to marvel.
