NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH
Celebrate National Novel Writing Month at the Boston Center for Adult Education
With days, weeks and months dedicated to celebrating everything from groundhogs to cheeseburgers and even fools, it’s hard to take another “nationally celebrated” event seriously.
Well, turn the page Boston, because this November the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) feels it’s only right for the education capitol of the world to celebrate National Novel Writing Month; a holiday with enough brains to be worthy of its cause.
Founded in 1999, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) began when 21 writers took on the challenge of writing a 175-page novel, or 50,000 words during the month of November. Now in its 10th year, nearly 200,000 writers set out to complete the 50,000 word challenge, and over 60 novels have been started during the month-long event including New York Times #1 Bestseller, “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen.
Despite its national recognition, more than 500 regional volunteers throughout 90 countries will host write-ins for writers looking for a supportive environment and sometimes a little bit of good old peer pressure from fellow writers.
In celebration of National Novel Writing Month, the BCAE is opening its doors to writers of all levels and hosting write-ins in their new state-of-the-art lobby located on 122 Arlington Street in Boston, MA. Guests can sip coffee and access the internet while enjoying the company of fellow students in an environment meant to foster education. For writers that would like to forgo the stress of the 50,000 word challenge, put your pen to the paper at the BCAE with some of their writing classes including:
