If you understand the basics of songwriting and have been writing some good songs, you may be wanting to learn how a good song becomes a GREAT one. If so, this is the workshop for you. Each week we will use a combination of fun exercises and your original songs to take your writing to the next level. The workshop emphasizes rewriting songs. We will talk about techniques for expanding creativity and "going there" emotionally. We will take a listen to some currently released songs and look at what makes them work. We will explore ways to enhance your song ideas and stories, and expand your lyrical, melodic, structural and harmonic palette. All genres are welcome. In addition, we'll touch on simple production techniques you can use to create your own recordings at home.
Stan Swiniarski is an award-winning Nashville songwriter, composer and keyboardist. He is an assistant professor in the Songwriting department at Berklee College of Music, where he also received his degree. He has cuts with a number of country artists, most recently the title cut on Lathan Moore's (Blue Steel Records) debut CD, "Love In Your Life". In addition, he composes instrumental music for a number of production music libraries, and has had placements on TV and Muzak.
