Eleven teaching artists exhibit their work in response to a two-week travel course in Ecuador. The travel course took place in July of 2010. Along with a group of students, they experienced the urban visual arts and cultural environment through visits to museums, cathedrals, cultural centers, markets and artists’ studios. The trip started in Quito and from there, they explored the surrounding Andean towns and villages to experience the rural art world of Ecuador working with artists, artisans and craftspeople. The exhibition demonstrates using the art practice as a means to develop an understanding of the variety of experiences encountered in Ecuador. Themes explored include: biodiversity, urbanization, creating memories, cultural traditions, and the role of craft.
