    Opening Reception -

A new exhibit “Exuberance” opens at the Brighton-Allston Heritage Museum’s Winship Gallery on November 12th with a free wine and cheese opening reception from 6-8 pm. with 10 featured artists in attendance. The new fine art exhibit, which runs through December 30th, explores celebrations from several different artistic perspectives. The museum is open Tuesday – Friday Noon-4 PM and most Saturdays, with the exception of November 27 and December 25. Additional weekday evening times will be added as well. The Museum is also open during the Arts & Crafts Fair Weekend – November 13 (Saturday) from 11-5 PM and November 14 (Sunday) from Noon – 5 PM. The museum is located at 20 Chestnut Hill Avenue in Brighton Center.

The exhibit highlights over 50 contemporary original artworks, including paintings, assemblages, collages, mixed media and photographs. The theme of the exhibit is that “art …. is a celebration of life” that transcends many different emotions, feelings and purposes related to ethnic, religious, family & civic festivals, parties and events as well as celebratory features in nature. The abstract expressionism and the realistic artworks presented in the exhibit encourage visitors to be aware of why and when they celebrate and how exuberant feelings are aroused and manifested in their minds and spirits and then portrayed through actions. “Explosive energy” and excitement, encouraged by music and food, generally invoke grand feelings of enthusiasm, joy and bliss but they can also awaken a inner consciousness and “memories” to support new actions on a personal or communal level.

The exhibit also includes images of several popular public celebrations in Allston and Brighton, including the annual Allston-Brighton Parade, the Brian Honan 5K Run/Walk, the Post Parade Party in the Park and the Allston Village Street Fair and many more.

The established artists with artwork in this exhibit include: Adria Arch, Mireille Clapp, Wilson Hunt, Marjorie Kaye, Ronni Komarow, Susan Loomis, Tamara Major, Ruth Segaloff, George Shaw and Arnold Trachtman. John Quatrale is the curator.

The artists represented have had many solo and group exhibits at many art galleries and museums, including the DeCordova Sculpture Park+Museum, the Boston Public Library, the Galatea Fine Art and the Bromfield Galleries in Boston’s SoWA Arts District in the South End, the Clark Gallery in Lincoln, the Cambridge Art Association, the Lexington Arts Center and the 13Forest Gallery in Arlington. Seven of the artists are affiliated with the Galatea or 13Forest.
