Merengue & Bachata
January 12-February 16, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Merengue and Bachata are spicy, popular Latin partner dances from the Dominican Republic that are fun to do and easy to master. The merengue emerged from the rural areas of the Dominican Republic and Haiti in the 18th century and is so named because of its fast hip motion that resembles an egg beater in action. The flirtatious and hip-swaying Bachata was developed in the rural parts of the Dominican Republic in the 1960s, and consists of three basics easy-to-learn steps. In this rousing class, you will learn the basic dance steps of these two popular dances as well as ways to embellish them with turns, magic hands, and the incorporation of other Latin dances.
