Parallel Journeys | A Shared Vision
December 3, 2010 - February 28, 2011
By: Manika Srivastav & Lenore Sempert
Reception: 12/9/2010, 6-8pm
Manika Srivastav and Lenore Sempert grew up thousands of miles apart, but fortuitously found a mutual passion in the work they create- finding inspiration from their varied pasts and the shared emphasis on color and combinations of figuration and abstraction in their work.
Srivastav’s paintings, full of colors relating to weathered prayer flags in the mountains of her native India, echo the natural forces in life and the frequently include organic materials such as burlap, rice and thread.
Sempert, a native of New York, offers both cityscapes full of expressive movement and recent small works referring to color fields in nature. These paintings posses a meditative quality- reflecting ephemeral moments like the experience of walking through water and reeds.
