Steve Forbert was playing Americana music before there was such a thing, mixing country, rock, and blues. With his voice of gravel, ambitious lyrics and charismatic stage presence, Forbert was hailed as the next Bob Dylan when he came on the scene in the late 1970s. His songs are deceptively straight-ahead, saying much but suggesting much more. But Steve's real gift is a talent for penning direct, heartfelt narratives. Steve will be playing selections from his latest album entitled "Down in Flames."

      One of the best songwriters of his generation, Steve got screwed by his record company and found himself in the position of not being able to play his best loved songs and hits without paying the label execs that where screwi. Trapped with a record his label would not release (it was too good). Go see Steve. He's funny. Insightful. Very talented. And bring some cash and bring friends and have everybody buy every CD he's ever made. He was playing at the Hot Tin Roof on the Vineyard in the 80's and came over to the bar where we where playing on his break. I looked down and there's this little fellow and he drawls, "You all know "Mama Tried." Sure we did. I yelled into the mic, "Ladies and Gentleman, all the way from the Hot Tin Roof", it's Steve Forbert!!!" The place went mad and we rocked that old Merle Haggard tune like nobody's business. Yeah, Steve is a "do not miss". So what are you waiting for? Collapse
