The Harvard Schools Trust and Emerson Hospital are pleased to announce that they will participate in a nationwide screening of “Race To Nowhere,” the award-winning documentary about “the pressures faced by American schoolchildren and their teachers in a system and culture obsessed with the illusion of achievement, competition and the pressure to perform.” The film will be shown at the Cronin Auditorium on January 20th at 7:00 p.m. and is FREE and open to the public. Following the documentary, there will be a half-hour questions and answers period where audience members may voice concerns and ask questions of two leading, local experts: Dr. Madhavi Kamireddi M.D., New England Center for Mental Health. Dr. Kamireddi is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry with subspecialty in child and adolescent psychiatry. Her expertise is in pediatric psychopharmacology with a special emphasis toward educating patients/parents about mental health illnesses and available treatment options. Dr. Jessica Rubinstein, Chief of Pediatrics, Emerson Hospital. Dr. Rubenstein is board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in pediatrics with a clinical interest in adolescent medicine. After completing her training at Boston Floating Hospital, New England Medical Center, one of the high points of her residency was the transport of critically ill infants and children via helicopter to Boston. Race to Nowhere is a call to mobilize families, educators, and policy makers to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens.
