Add Review/Comment
Exhibit: In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War, The Fells presents an exhibit based upon Colonel John Milton Hay's Civil War diary and letters. Considered invaluable primary sources on both the War and Lincoln, these documents describe an intimate portrait of the Civil War White House and President Lincoln's leadership and humanity. On display is a recently acquired three-volume set of Letters of John Hay and Extracts from Diary, edited and privately printed posthumously in 1908 by his widow, Clara Stone Hay, and friend, Henry Adams. Period artifacts detail and authenticate Hay's vital role as Lincoln's trusted secretary and confidante. Members free, nonmembers pay site admission. The Fells Main House Gallery, 456 Rte. 103A, Newbury, NH 03255. For more information: www.thefells.org, info@thefells.org, 603-763-4789.
