    Atul Bhalla, photographer, with Sugata Bose, Gardiner Professor of Oceanic History and Affairs, Harvard University; James L. Wescoat Jr., Aga Khan Professor of Architecture, MIT; and Deborah Martin Kao, Chief Curator, Richard L. Menschel Curator of Photography, and Acting Head, Division of Modern and Contemporary Art, Harvard Art Museums

    Artist’s talk followed by a panel discussion with Atul Bhalla, presented in conjunction with the installation I Was Not Waving but Drowning. Speakers will address socioeconomic, cultural, and environmental concerns, such as pollution in the river Yamuna resulting from increased urbanization in India, and the significance of historically sacred sites in the face of modernization.

    Organized by Maliha Noorani, 2009–11 Norma Jean Calderwood Curatorial Fellow, Division of Asian and Mediterranean Art, Harvard Art Museums.

    Free admission. Open to the public.
