February 20, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Navarasa Dance Theater’s newest production, “Encounter,” addresses issues of exclusion and military violence through a unique presentation of Indian contemporary dance, martial arts, live singing, and dialogue. The performance features a dance performed on a 12-foot-high wooden pillar and martial arts sequences with bamboo cane weaponry. All these elements are integrated seamlessly into the story of a remarkable woman, a peasant rebel named Dopdi.
Led by artistic directors Aparna Sindhoor and Anil Natyaveda, NDT has toured their original works of dance theater throughout North America, Europe, and India to wide critical acclaim.
