50 Under 50
January 5 - January 30, 2011
The 50 Under 50 is all about finding joy in the little things! The newest Loading Dock Gallery exhibit presents a wide range of 50 small works of art each priced under $50—from photography to jewelry to paintings to mixed media to glass work. It’s a sampler of high quality work brought to you by the entire gallery membership and it’s all affordable for your post-holidays art collecting. Take a peek at some of the artwork that you will discover at the exhibit…
Enjoy Jeffrey Engel’s ethereal Polaroid emulsion lift pieces of trees on hand-made paper. Jeff uses Polaroid film hoarded from when Polaroid discontinued making film for instant cameras. For emulsion lift, he soaks a Polaroid photograph in water causing the photo to separate from its backing paper, and that photo is then attached to hand-made paper. The result is a slightly distressed photo with a wonderful wispy, transparent quality.
For a more traditional approach to photography be sure to check out Jack Holmes’ "Bike in the Barn,” a black and white photo that takes you back in time to a simpler life. Although this photograph was captured in a local North Andover barn, be sure to view all of his work, for Jack is a master at capturing interesting views across the world.
For something completely different, peruse the mixed media textile art of Sonja Lee-Austin or perhaps the glasswork of Peter Zimmerman. Sonja’s “Serenity” triptych combines hand-dyed silk with textured paper, fibers, and metals to create “serene” little abstract compositions that play well with Peter’s colorful and elegant glass vases and bowls.
Whatever art medium you fancy most, you are almost sure to find it at 50 Under 50. So come find the joy in the little things at the Loading Dock Gallery!
