  I've seen three or four professional productions of "Candide," but the NEC's February 28 production was certainly the most enjoyable and the most spirited. The now famous overture opened the evening with an articulate and impressively brisk performance. The professional actors acquitted themselves with the confidence and skill one would expect: the lead couple, Jennifer Caraluzzi and Michael Kuhn, were dazzling, both charming and convincing. With the support of excellent singers and instrumentalists, Candide came alive last night, and the finale, "Make Our Garden Grow,: brought the audience understandably to its feet. Congratulations and gratitude to Stephen Lord, Sean Curran, the cast, the chorus, the orchestra, and all the support players. Collapse
