“Everything that happens must be for the best” in NEC's production of Leonard Bernstein’s comic operetta Candide. The biting satire of Lillian Hellman’s libretto, an adaptation of Voltaire’s 1758 novella, traces the adventures of callow Candide as he travels through Europe and to the fabled land of Eldorado during the Spanish Inquisition.
Stephen Lord, the new Artistic Director of Opera Studies, takes the podium for the first time at NEC to conduct this semi-staged presentation, with Luretta Bybee, Executive Director and Chair of Opera Studies, singing the Old Woman. Featuring Ron Raines as Pangloss and guest directed by Sean Curran.
