  I went to the Evening at the Kiln two years ago mostly because my father is a potter and wanted to go. I found it to be surprisingly fun. You'd think that watching clay bake would be like watching paint dry, but they have a couple of guys feeding the fire and you get to watch. They teach you a bit about the process and culture of firing. They also make it a party. There's music and plenty of refreshments. You get a complimentary hand made mug. The potter is there to demonstrate throwing on the wheel and you get to decorate a plate and make a pot. When I was there we stayed pretty late and only left because we had a two hour drive home.
