Simultaneously majestic and passionate, Symphony of Psalms remains one of Stravinsky’s most popular works. The unique orchestration replaces violins and violas with two pianos and harp, making it sound more archaic and rhythmically potent. The Symphony reflects a renewal of faith by Stravinsky and inexorably builds to a climax of timeless, beatific joy. The New England Philharmonic joins Chorus pro Musica for this performance.
The program will also include the world premiere of a new commission by composer Abbie Betinis.
