Gen Silent is the powerful new documentary from award-winning documentary filmmaker and director Stu Maddux about the challenges facing LGBT older adults and caregivers as they deal with issues of aging and discrimination. Gen Silent follows six Boston area LGBT older adults and caregivers over the course of a year as they face healthcare and long-term care crises. LGBT older people who fought the first battles for equality now have so much fear about discrimination, bullying and abuse that many are hiding their lives to survive. Thousands are dying earlier than their straight counterparts because they are isolated and afraid to ask for help. But a growing number of people are working to protect LGBT older adults and caregivers. Gen Silent offers hope and new models of care – that are taking place here in Massachusetts. Gen Silent helps raise awareness so that our LGBT older adults can have a greater chance to live and age in safety, with dignity and respect.
