One of the finest of the early Disney dramas, Old Yeller follows the adventures shared by a boy and his family’s dog. The film’s uncompromising confrontation with loss—comparable to Disney classics such as Bambi—didn’t hamper its enormous popular appeal, instead establishing its tale in the pop-cultural psyche.
