March 30-April 20, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Discover the roots of the aesthetic, iconographic, and enlightened characteristics of Asian art. Meditations in the Museum explores four different genres of Buddhist art found in the Museum of Fine Arts' rich collection. Found throughout the Asian landscape (South East Asia, China, Japan and the Himalayas), these objects will be investigated in terms of the context, stylistic implications, history and aesthetic value that make these world class museum objects. Participants will then explore these objects as embodiments of the divine and as sacred art, discovering the meditation practices and thought systems from which the objects emerged.
