A Woman is a Woman
April 22-April 23, 2011

Godard’s third feature is one of the lastingly clever delights of the French New Wave. The mesmeric Anna Karina is Angela, a part-time stripper in a rush to have a baby. Bursting with cinematic allusions and play (Angela professes she doesn’t know if the film is “a comedy or a tragedy, but in any case it's a masterpiece"), A Woman is a Woman remains—50 years after its release—a fresh, audacious and impertinent declaration. Followed by Une vague nouvelle, part six of Godard’s Histoire(s) du cinema.
